Placing, Selecting, and Removing Blocks
In Mindstorms you write your programs by dragging blocks and placing them on the screen. Blocks get places on the white technibrick line known as the Sequence Beam. When the robot reads the program it starts from the orange square and moves left to the end of the line. Place blocks on this line for the robot to read them and execute them.
Now its time to place some blocks. To the left is where you can find you blocks. Each of the symbols represents a different block that can be chosen. To grab a block, left click and hold on the symbol and move your mouse over the white area. A block will then appear.
To place this block look for the vertical white bar. This bar shows in the background and tells you where the block will be dropped when you let go of the mouse button. Get this bar near the sequence beam to place it on the line. When you are near the line, the white bar will move over the sequence beam and the sequence beam will extend to accept the block. Make sure when placing blocks on the sequence beam that you are patient. You must wait for the sequence beam to extend before letting go of the mouse button. Sometimes not waiting can cause bugs in your program. These bugs cannot be fixed so please take your time. You can move blocks the same way you pulled them down. Click and hold on it where ever it is placed. This will pick the block back up. Move your mouse where you want to place it and then release the mouse button to drop it. |
Now you need to know how to select a block. A block is selected when there is a blue ring around it and words show up on the bottom of the screen. When a block is selected you can execute commands on it or edit it.
To select a block, put your mouse over top of it or click on it. You can also lasso the block. To lasso, left click and hold over a white area and drag the mouse. Pull the mouse so that the lasso is over the block that you want and then release the mouse button.
You can select multiple blocks by holding the Shift key while clicking on the desired blocks or catching multiple blocks in the lasso.
