The Research Project
The project is worth 1/3 of your overall score. There are four main parts to the project:
The project is an important part of the competition and will take time to do correctly. Don’t rush and get your facts straight. Most of all choose a topic that interests you all, otherwise it won’t be fun. This is a great learning experience.
Look at the First Lego League website for more details on the project:

- The Problem – You must first identify a problem. This problem must relate to the theme of the competition that year. In this case, you must identify a biomedical problem. This problem must be within your defined community.
- The Solution – You must now find an innovative solution to your problem. Because of the difficulty of some of the themes, you can create your own solution, use an already existing solution or create an improvement on an already existing solution.
- Community Sharing – Now you must present this solution to your defined community. Try to define your community so as to make sure you can present this idea to them. If you define your community as all of Asia, then this info must be presented to all of Asia. This is about getting the information and your findings out to your community.
- Presentation – You must also present this project to the judges. This presentation is only 5 minute maximum. It may sound long but it actually is not as much time as you think. This presentation can be in the form of anything you want, so long as you get the information across. Make the presentation fun and creative so that the judges will remember your team. They will be watching thirty other teams and yours must stand out to them.
